Sony have kindly given us the next PSN update a day before Christmas instead of making us wait until after and I must say it’s the best update we’ve had in a while.
All of the MGS4 LBP items have gone live, as well as demos for Sonic Unleashed and WipEout HD and some most likely awesome Resistance 2 themes.

Home will be down for around 6 hours today as Sony perform some vital maintenance to the service.
This is to solve the problems people have been having getting on to Home because of the high demand for the service.
SCEA explains, “Sony Computer Entertainment will conduct system maintenance for PlayStation Home on Thursday, December 18, 2008. At this time PlayStation Home will be updated from ver. 1.03 to 1.04. The system maintenance is scheduled to start at 12 midnight (PST), and the service is expected to resume in approximately 6 hours but may change depending on the circumstances. PlayStation Home will be unavailable during the maintenance window.
“The reason for this maintenance is to ease the difficulty some people are having accessing PlayStation Home due to the high demand for the service.
“Additionally, as part of version 1.04, the voice chat feature within PlayStation Home will be temporarily suspended. As soon as we are ready to resume the voice chat feature, we will inform you via PlayStation.com and PlayStation.Blog. In the meantime, we encourage users to make use of the Wireless Keypad for PS3 or any USB or Bluetooth-enabled keyboard for text chat and also the ‘phone friend’ features to communicate within PlayStation Home.
“We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause you and kindly ask for your understanding.”
Hopefully it won’t just be a fix and some new stuff will be added as well.
So PlayStation Home finally reached Open Beta stage last week and, as anyone who tried to access it at launch will know, was near impossible to connect to.
Well this Thursday, Sony are releasing a patch to hopefully fix this problem. To quote:
“We’ll be patching Home this Thursday and part of this change will be the first step in tackling the connection issues that you’ll know as C-931 errors.”
You gotta hand it to Sony. Whenever there’s a problem they are straight on top of it, no sarcasm intended.
Another teaser trailer has been released for Uncharted 2: Among Theives and from the looks of it, Nathan Drake is having another series of bad days. Bad day for him, awesome gaming for us.

A poll conducted amongst residents of teenage virtual world favourite Habbo has shown that games consoles are the most sought after present for teens this Christmas – and the Xbox 360 leads the crowd.
Of the 4,540 UK teens polled, 39 per cent wanted Santa to bring a PC or games console this year. In contrast, 14 per cent yearned for a mobile phone and 13 per cent want ‘clothes and accessories’.
Xbox 360 was the most wanted console, with 20 per cent of aspiring console owners hoping to receive Microsoft’s machine. It was followed by Nintendo’s Wii (19 per cent) in second and Sony’s PS3 (15 per cent) in third. DS and PSP were well down the pecking order, claiming just two per cent and one per cent of the vote respectively.
For those who have signed up a Japanese account to play and download the Resident Evil 5 demo from Xbox Live, the demo is now region locked.
Increasing its library of local music from around the world this month, Activision Publishing, Inc.’s Guitar Hero World Tour – which features on-disc songs from top global acts such as Tokio Hotel, Hushpuppies and Radio Futura – is offering new three-song Track Packs of downloadable content from popular European bands including Germany’s Sportfreunde Stiller, France’s BB Brunes and Spain’s Fito Y Fitipaldis
Three songs from nineties grunge band Nirvana are now available as downloadable content for Guitar Hero World Tour. Apparently it’s the first time their songs have appeared as DLC for Guitar Hero, a fact that only interests people concerned with the word count of their gaming news article.
The three songs are “You Know You’re Right,” “Sliver,” and “Negative Creep.” “Negative Creep” first appeared on their 1989 debut album Bleach. “Sliver” and “You Know You’re Right” were both non-album singles but appeared on compilation records.
